Crunchyroll has announced its lineup for the spring 2024 anime season, which includes:

Solo Leveling Anime Update

Leaked reports suggest the highly anticipated Solo Leveling anime adaptation may span 6 seasons, with Season 2 already confirmed. The release date for season 2 is yet to be announced.

BLUE LOCK & ONE PIECE
Update on Blue Lock & One Piece

Blue Lock's "Nagi Episode" will be a 90-minute special, premiering in Japan on April 19th. Separately, Samsung AI has collaborated with the popular anime/manga series One Piece.

New Baki-Dou Anime Announced

TMS Entertainment revealed a teaser for an upcoming anime adaptation of Baki-Dou, the fourth major story arc of Keisuke Itagaki's martial arts manga. The announcement excited fans with visuals and videos teasing the highly-anticipated adaptation.

Koi o Shiranai Boku-tachi wa Manga Gets Live-Action Film Adaptation

The Shochiku Channel announced in a BTS documentary that Koi o Shiranai Boku-tachi wa manga is getting a live-action film adaptation, set to premiere on August 23. The official website released the cast as per the image above (left to right).

ATTACK ON TITAN
Isayama & Kaji Collaborate on Soyogi Fractal Manga

Hajime Isayama, Attack on Titan's mangaka, and Yūki Kaji, Eren's voice actor, are collaborating on a one-shot manga spinoff of Kaji's Soyogi Fractal project, celebrating his 20th voice acting anniversary. Isayama is drawing the storyboard draft, while Kaji writes the story. The manga will debut in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine and Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine this summer. An audition is open until April 30 for an artist to draw the final art based on Isayama's storyboards.

BLUE PERIOD
Blue Period Manga Gets Live-Action Film

Warner Bros. Japan announced on Tuesday that Tsubasa Yamaguchi's Blue Period manga will get a live-action film adaptation, set to premiere on August 9, 2024. And also streamed a teaser for the film. The film stars the following characters as per the image above (left to right)

  • Gordon Maeda as Yatora Yaguchi

  • Fumiya Takahashi as Ryuji Ayukawa

  • Rihito Itagaki as Yotasuke Takahashi

  • Hiyori Sakurada as Maru Mori

MY HERO ACADEMIA
My Hero Academia Anime Update

My Hero Academia's seventh season will premiere on Crunchyroll on May 4 at 5:30 a.m. EDT worldwide except Asia, following a four-episode compilation special called My Hero Academia Memories, which starts on April 6 at 5:30 a.m. EDT. Both the season and the special will be dubbed in English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, and Italian. The official My Hero Academia manga Twitter account announced over 100 million copies in circulation worldwide after the release of the 40th volume.

THE APOTHECARY SERIES
Manga Creator Nekokurage Indicted for Tax Evasion on Apothecary Diaries Income

Nekokurage, creator of The Apothecary Diaries manga, was indicted for tax evasion by Fukuoka Taxation Bureau, allegedly failing to declare 260M yen (~$1.7M) in income, evading 47M yen (~$310,000) in taxes (2019-2021). Undisclosed income from manga sales used for real estate purchases. Nekokurage acknowledged the allegations, stating they neglected tax returns due to ignorance, paid taxes and fees after tax office instructions, and sought a tax accountant's help for proper returns. Nekokurage clarified this is a personal matter, unrelated to the original light novel series author or manga team.

New Trailer for Original Anime Film 'A Few Moments of Cheers

Bandai Namco Filmworks unveiled the full trailer and main visual for the original anime film 'A Few Moments of Cheers', revealing additional staff, the June 14 release date. The film is a collaboration between writer Jukki Hanada, Hurray! studio, and 100Studio. The cast are Yūma Uchida as Daisuke Tonosaki and Fūka Izumi as Emi Nakagawa. Read more


'Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte' Novels Get TV Anime Adaptation

A website has been launched to announce the upcoming television anime adaptation of Mikito Chinen's 'Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte' novel series. The website unveils a teaser video and visual teasing the anime. Additionally, the original character designer for the novels, Noizi Ito, has drawn a new illustration to celebrate this announcement.

'Kimi to Uchū o Aruku Tame ni' Wins 17th Manga Taisho Award

The 17th Manga Taisho awards committee announced Inuhiko Doronoda's 'Kimi to Uchū o Aruku Tame ni' as the winner during the award ceremony on Tuesday. The manga, which launched in June 2023 and, with its first volume published by Kodansha in November. Doronoda celebrated by drawing a illustration. Read more


'Digimon Adventure 02' Film Gets N.A. Release

Shout! Studios is releasing the 'Digimon Adventure 02 The Beginning' anime film in North America on June 11 via Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and digital platforms. The Combo Pack includes a limited Digimon Card Game promo pack tied to an upcoming webcomic. Shout! Studios secured the distribution rights through a deal with Toei Animation earlier this year.

Voice Actor Bon Ishihara Passes Away at 68

Voice actor Bon Ishihara (real name Sumio Ishihara), known for roles like the Gold-Toothed Doctor in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Johnny in Samurai Champloo and more, passed away on February 8 at age 68. A private funeral was held for his relatives. Read more


New "Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan" Live-Action Episode Announced

NHK will air a new episode of the live-action series based on Hirohiko Araki's "Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan" spinoff from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The ninth episode will adapt the "Mitsuryō Kaigan" (Poaching Seashore) story and air on BS Premium 4K on May 5, followed by NHK General on May 10.

GKIDS to Release 'The First Slam Dunk' Anime Film on Blu-ray

GKIDS has announced the Blu-ray Disc release of 'The First Slam Dunk', the anime film adaptation of Takehiko Inoue's 'Slam Dunk' manga, on June 25th. Distributed by Shout! Studios, the Blu-ray will include bonus features like an interview with director Inoue, an English dub featurette, audio commentary, trailers, and a limited edition sticker sheet. A Collector's Edition is also planned for later this year.


Shangri-La Frontier Anime Announces Second Season

The anime adaptation of the web novel Katarina's Shangri-La Frontier will receive a second season, premiering in October 2024 and spanning two consecutive cours (quarters of a year). Crunchyroll has confirmed its streaming rights for the new season, having previously streamed the first season.
