New Anime Movie from Chainsaw Man Creator

Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of Chainsaw Man, is adapting his critically acclaimed one-shot manga, "Look Back," into an anime movie. Unlike Chainsaw Man's dark tone, "Look Back" promises to be an emotional and tear-jerking story about two girls, Fujino and Kyomoto, who form a bond through their shared passion for drawing manga, breaking free from their mundane lives in a remote town. The trailer has just been released.

Hajime no Ippo Manga Takes a Break

The 20th issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine announced that George Morikawa's long-running boxing manga, Hajime no Ippo, will be on hiatus this week to prepare for the magazine's combined 21st and 22nd double issue. The series, which is Morikawa's sole work, celebrated over 100 million copies in circulation last July after its debut in 1989.

Viz Media Expands Manga App and Library

Viz Media's manga app is now accessible in the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, in addition to Canada and the U.S. The app's library has grown, including Marvel manga titles like Deadpool: Samurai and X-Men: The Manga: Remastered. With over 10,000 chapters from Shogakukan and Shueisha, the app offers a vast selection of manga content across multiple regions.

Manga Hits on NYT Bestseller List

In early April's NYT Graphic Books and Manga bestseller list, SPY x FAMILY vol. 11 ranked #7, My Hero Academia vol. 37 at #8, and One Piece vol. 105 at #11. Previously, Chainsaw Man vol. 14 ranked #3, Dragon Ball Super vol. 20 at #10, and Berserk Deluxe vol. 1 at #11 in March.

YURI!! ON ICE
Yuri!!! on Ice Anime Film Canceled

The "Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence" film, a follow-up to the popular TV anime series, has been officially canceled by the production committee and studio MAPPA due to "various circumstances". Originally announced in 2017, the film faced multiple delays, with the staff initially planning to "substantially scale up the content" beyond original plans.

FRIEREN
Frieren Gets Real Escape Game

SCRAP's Real Escape Game is creating an escape room experience called "Escape from the Millennium Dream" based on the popular series Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. Teams have 60 minutes to find a magical grimoire to wake up Frieren from a deep sleep in a dream world, with Fern and Stark as partners. Hints are provided. Tickets go on sale for fan club members on April 22, general sales on April 27, with a special package available.

One Piece Live-Action Wins Writers Guild Award

The live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's popular manga One Piece on Netflix has won the "Children's Episodic, Long Form and Specials" category at the 2024 Writers Guild Awards. Writers Matt Owens and Steven Maeda were honored for the series' premiere episode "Romance Dawn.

Netflix Streams English Trailer for T・P BON Anime

Netflix streamed an English trailer for the T・P BON anime, adapted from Fujiko F. Fujio's Time Patrol Bon manga. The preview highlights the time-traveling story with scenes across different eras like the Bronze Age and WWII, teasing the theme songs. Season 1 premieres globally on Netflix on May 2, with Season 2 following on July 17.

4 Men Suspected of Illegally Copying Strike Witches Anime Materials

The Tokyo Police sent documents to prosecutors regarding 4 men suspected of violating copyright law by illegally copying and selling Strike Witches anime production materials through online auctions since 2016, generating around $64,700 in sales. Between 2019-2020, they allegedly used a printer to reproduce character designs and backgrounds at a rented office. Read more


Novelist Osamu Sōda Dies at 95

Renowned novelist Osamu Sōda, known for his anti-war children's works, passed away on April 8 at age 95 due to pneumonia. After a sudden deterioration following hospitalization for a cold, his publisher Kadokawa honored Sōda's 45-year writing career inspiring children while opposing war based on personal experiences, continuing to write new stories past 90.

Mushoku Tensei Console Game's Global Release Set for June 20

The official Twitter account for the Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation - Quest of Memories console game announced on Sunday that the game will launch globally, excluding China, on June 20. Bushiroad Games will release the game for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, with development handled by Lancarse. Read more


One Piece Odyssey Switch Release

The One Piece Odyssey game is coming to Nintendo Switch on July 26 as the Deluxe Edition. It includes the "Reunion of Memories" DLC where the Straw Hats revisit Memoria, their memories world, plus bonus outfits. The game initially launched for other platforms in January 2023.
